In Neon Arcana, I distil the Major Arcana of the tarot into pure emotional essence, transforming archetypal figures into vibrant, contemporary icons. Each figure is surrounded by colour fields signifying psychological states, while gold patterns radiate outward like energy.
Where The Veiled Court situates its figures within architectural and narrative space, Neon Arcana strips away context entirely, leaving only the archetype and its charge. The figures are immediate, frontal, unapologetic - presence without story, intensity without explanation.
Working in acrylic on intimate scales (5x7"), the series draws from portraiture, fashion, historical painting, and the visual language of contemporary iconography. The result is a body of work that is at once ancient and urgently of the moment - the Major Arcana reimagined as psychological portraiture.
